Angela de Jesus - 2010 Thamgidi Prize winner at the Spier Contemporary, Cape town, South Africa

Artist biography

Angela de Jesus, currently living and working in Bloemfontein (South Africa) is an independent curator, project manager and visual artist specializing in printmaking, video and installation art. She obtained a masters degree in Fine Arts from the University of the Free State and has participated in several national exhibitions including the ABSA L’ Atelier Art Competition, the Vuleka Awards and the Fractal Young Artists Group exhibition at Oliewenhuis Art Museum. Her solo exhibition entitled In Exchange showcased last year at the Johannes Stegmann Art Gallery. She received a merit award at the Xpozure Awards in 2003, was a merit winner at the Sasol New Signatures Awards in 2009 and was awarded the Thamgidi Residency Prize at Spier Contemporary earlier this year. She has been involved with the Artists in Schools initiative at the University of the Free State and is the project manager of the Lotto Sculpture-on-Campus project.
